In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees . . . .And I thought I couldn't take another paranormal romance story. Unearthly completely breaks the mold and I'm so thankful for it.
Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what that is, though, isn't easy.
Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place—and out of place at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.
As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make—between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?
Angel stories for me at least are hit or miss, this one is a hit. I loved Clara she is an awesome character and has some smarts about her that really made me like her. Not like some other romance heroines that make me want to gag.
I was compelled to just keep reading. I couldn't stop the story was engaging and kept moving. Clara has just received her purpose which forces her family to move from California to Wyoming. All she knows is there is a fire and a boy that she believes she has to save. But what unfolds in the story is not what I expected at all. A book that kept my interest right up to the last page and of course I'm dying for the next book, because Hand left just enough plot lines open I have to know what happens next.
A great debut novel. I recommend this to those who enjoy a good story with some romance. Clara is not the typical heroine of other romance novels and it was a breathe of fresh air.
