[synopsis from Goodreads]
Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love - the deliria - blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.Dystopian novels have sure made a big impression on the YA book market and as far as I can tell it is here to stay for awhile. And now with more novels coming out with romance in them, I am starting to really sink my teeth into them. Delirium is no exception and was a good read for a lazy weekend afternoon.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.
It seems in most of the dystopian novels of late that government has tried to control who people fall in love with. Lena's world is no different. The government has found a cure for the deliria or love disease. It seems crazy to think that love is a disease that can kill you but that is what Lena has been taught and it trying to make sure she doesn't end up like her mom. She just wants to make until the day that she is cured, but then she meets Alex and that all changes.
The writing was okay, but what I loved was the descriptions of the landscape. The story started out a little slow and for me dragged until about midway, then it really starts to pick up and the ending is amazing. A perfect cliffhanger that will leave you wanted the sequel. If you are a fan of dystopian romance novels and are in need of a book to curl up with, then this just might be your novel.
